inventory solutions?
i have around 4,000 items in inventory and i want to bar code everything to keep track of them. i am using ecomdash to list my items to eBay and Amazon but i need a way to keep track of them so that when someone buys something i can pull up a document or page that says where the item is in my warehouse and then i can scan the bar code on the item and have it removed from my online stores immediately.

Treating the Marketplace as the System of Record
ShipStation considers the source marketplace the "system of record" for orders, and this colors the development approach to many of the features (or missing features) of the application.
Here's why I see this as a problem, using Shopify as the example marketplace and Fulfillment by Amazon US (FBA US) as the primary fulfillment solution. (That's a simple and straightforward combination, but the reality is that most of us wouldn't even be using ShipStation of our situations were actually that simple.)
Shopify does not have an easy, built-in function for bundles or custom orders. What is provides is the ability to match one product to one SKU. One way around this is to create a new product that acts as your bundle of multiple products and give it its own SKU.
In our example, we'll say we have three products with SKUs PROD01, PROD02, and PROD03. These products with matching SKUs are defined in FBA US. We also have a fourth "product," BUNDLE01, which is made up of the three other products.
If someone orders the bundle through Shopify, the order comes through with a single line item, BUNDLE01. That's not a valid SKU in FBA US, and ShipStation doesn't let us map one marketplace SKU to multiple fulfillment SKUs. The obvious solution would be to manually edit the order to replace BUNDLE01 with PROD01, PROD02, and PROD03. But ShipStation thinks Shopify should be authoritative for orders, despite the very limitations of that system which drove me to try ShipStation in the first place, and won't let me edit the order!
(If it were as simple as "send this order, unchanged, from Shopify to Fulfillment by Amazon," we'd just use the built-in fulfillment settings of Shopify.)
Here's where the "system of record" justification for not allowing order modification gets silly. We create a new manual order and add PROD01, PROD02, and PROD03 and some dummy customer info (it doesn't matter what is added here). Then merge that manual order into the Shopify order that has BUNDLE01. At this point, ShipStation shows that the entire order is a Shopify order going to a single customer and it can now be easily sent to FBAUS for fulfillment and tracked as though it were the original order!
Except, of course, that it can't. That original BUNDLE01 is still there, and FBAUS will throw the entire thing back as unfulfillable because of that one invalid SKU. But we don't have the option of editing the order to remove that original item, there's no way to flag BUNDLE01 as "information only" (similar to the way coupons are flagged when they come through as line items). So what do we do?
We split the order we just merged so we can "partially fulfill" it. When we split the order, even though we're pulling out the three items added manually, ShipStation still shows that both resulting orders are from Shopify ... the supposed system of record. Now we can send those three items on to Amazon with all the information from the original order and have an update sent back to Shopify that the order was fulfilled. And the original, leftover order with BUNDLE01?
It has to be marked fulfilled manually, even though you and I both know the order was fulfilled when we sent the three items to Amazon.
If such a workaround as I've described exists, you may wonder why I don't just use that all the time and stop asking for the ability to edit orders. First, it's a kludgy workaround, and requires a lot of time-consuming steps per order. Second, I don't just have one well-defined bundle; I also have custom orders that may come through with a SKU of BUNDLE (or, in my non-profit's case, DONATION), with the description of which products go in the bundle included as text attributes. Every order can be slightly different. Finally, I don't have just one fulfillment method: FBA US, FBA Canada, FedEx, USPS, UPS, or hand-delivery may each apply depending on where the order is going and what products are included.
The underlying problem, I believe, is the insistence that because the marketplace is the "system of record" for orders, all adjustments and changes must be made there. Some of these adjustments cannot be made at the marketplace; that's the whole reason we sought out an intermediary application like ShipStation to help resolve these complex problems! That's what integration platforms are supposed to do, after all.
In the example above, Shopify still shows that the customer ordered BUNDLE01. That's authoritative. As the business owner, I know that BUNDLE01 consists of products that may also be ordered individually, and so I need to be able to tell Amazon—authoritatively—to send out PROD01, PROD01, and PROD03 for that order.
Please, ShipStation, let the business owner be the ultimate authority on order fulfillment. Even if we assume that the system of record for BUNDLE01 is Shopify, it's imperative to the business process that we be able to modify and massage the order contents before sending it for fulfillment.
Otherwise, what's the point of having ShipStation sit between the marketplace and fulfillment services at all?

How do you primarily use Facebook for your business?
There's a lot of new stuff on Facebook now. You can "collect" products in addition to liking them, there's offers and gifts you can give as a business page, and it's become much more common to promote your posts for them to show up in your fans' timelines. This week's infographic is about Facebook and how valuable it is and can be for a business. It even purports that Facebook sales will be 50% of all online sales by 2015.
I thought the most interesting facts were that Facebook fans are likely to be more valuable than your non-FB fans. I'm betting this is because they're already engaged, but I want to hear your opinion and experience. I know some of you have crazy awesome followings on Facebook. How have things worked for you with engagement? Do you use the promote feature to get your posts noticed more? Do you mainly post photos or status updates? We want to know!

Amazon's Buy Now Shipping is giving us an "Internal Error"
I see nothing on http://status.shipstation.com/ or in the newsfeed of the same.
It says all systems are operational. Is anybody else getting internal errors who are doing Seller-Fulfilled Prime and are required to use the Amazon "Buy Shipping" integration?
I've submitted a formal support request, but thought I would mention it in the forum, as I came here first to see if others were reporting the problem.

have a big issue now with shipstation
We are going to start shipping ups surepost and need to be able to use a 4" x 8" shipping label with our thermal printers. Apparently shipstation does not support this size of label which we find a bit perplexing. If ups surepost needs this size of label why is it not supported by shipstation - I am told that other platforms (ie Shipwire) support this size label as told by our ups rep.
Now we are in a situation since we've used shipstation for years but need to be able to print this size label???
Any ideas on how to make it happen?
Thanks

Help a newbie?
On my second week of using SS and trying to get solve a problem. I ship multiple packages each day, with different sizes, weights etc. I want to create all those labels at once without the system auto-charging me for each one individually. I have figured out how to batch a bunch of identical packages, but not different packages....and 50 charges for $7.20 is frustrating to manage on the accounting side, to day the least.
Can someone either tell me how to do this or point me in the right direction? I would love written documentation, but I will watch a video, if that is where the information is and I can find the right one.....Thanks.

Printing the Order Summary does not show sales tax
Hey guys,
I'm trying to print out the order summary for one of our orders. When you click on the order number in ShipStation, it brings up another window that allows you to see the order summary, customs declarations, and shipping options. The order summary within this window shows the sales tax that the customer paid. However, when you print this order summary, it does not list the tax they paid, it only lists the items purchased, and the total amount they paid.
Is there somewhere I can go to print the entire summary like I see in the popped up window?

Bringing down customizations fields from Amazon
In our Amazon store, our products can have user entry customizations like names, initials etc... These customization fields are not part of the download into ShipStation. We currently have to copy and paste into one of the available fields in Shipstation. I know it is possible to get at these fields because someone just contacted me today to try to sell me a subscription to his APP that does just that. My thinking is if he can get to this info, I should be able to as well and without having to pay this guy yearly!
Any suggestions?

I was working on one computer at home last night and Chrome kept crashing saying it didn't have enough memory. It has never done this before
and I had no other programs open. I thought perhaps it was my home computer. I'm now at the office and 2 other computers here have crashed using

Improve the Scan to View Barcode Feature
We print the Order ID on every label so that we can use it in our WMS and ERP solution that we built based off of your order API. And our custom system does everything. Pretty much 90% of your idea portal is solved in-house.
The only thing we can't control is your interface, and API bugs.
We can't make use of the scan to view barcode because of how cumbersome the setup is. Here are my suggestions.
Remove the Hex
We have a perfectly good Order ID on our labels already, which we use in our system. Your Scan to View barcode feature requires the order ID communicated in hex. Why can't it just work as the order ID?
Remove the Special Characters
Even if you didn't require Hex, you require the order ID to be encapsulated ^#^ ^. We would need an additional barcode with the encapsulation so that it didn't interfere with our existing system. Just use a normal input box like everything else. We have made hundreds of pages in our system for dozens of features. None of them required encapsulation.
Remove the Order Status Requirement
An Order ID is unique to ShipStation. There will never be both an unshipped and cancelled order with the same order ID, so why require the filter? The person scanning the barcode may not even know the status - they could be using ShipStation to pull up the order to confirm if it was cancelled. In that example they would have to Look up the order so that they could Look up the order. How redundant. Remove the filter, it makes no sense.
The hex and special characters are extremely cumbersome, and filters for a 1:1 match are redundant. It is almost like a third-party came in and coded this without knowledge of how anything else works.
